Halton Farnworth Hornets ARLFC Open Age following a month away from action started 2012 in winning ways by
snatching a last gasp victory from NWC Division Two table toppers Heysham Atoms with a last minute length of the
field try by Kyle McGreavy to earn a 22-20 win.
Heysham had taken an early 00 - 06 lead before a great ball from Gary Richardson put David Dourley through a gap
to
score close to the posts, Dourley converted his own try to level the game. Heysham regained the lead on the stroke
of half time and extended this to 20-8 early in the second half. Jason Green (MoM) ignited Halton's fight back running
onto a Neil Mellor pass before leaving a trail of defenders in his wake.
At 20-10 down and with time running out Ryan Kershaw raised hopes when he scored close to the posts, Dourley
converted and all was set for a last gasp effort. From the restart, quick passing put Kershaw free again,
Jack Williams supported well and he release Kyle McGreavy on the half way line, he stepped inside the fullback and
raced 50 yards to level the scores – Dourley added the extras and HFH ARLFC were home.

Halton Farnworth Hornets continued their unbeaten start to 2012 with a 10 try demolition of Higginshaw, in atrocious conditions HFH battled against the elements in the first half to open the scoring after 10 minutes when Gary Richardson
found Tony Fretwell with an inch perfect pass to score under the posts. Danny Mellor added extras with a simple
conversion.
Higginshaw put up some stubborn resistance for the next 20 mins but 2 tries in the last 10 minutes gave the Hornets a
handy half time lead, first Ryan Kershaw crashed through several tackles to score wide out and on the stroke of half
time Andy Morrison supported well to score by the posts. David Dourley converted to give HFH ARLFC a 16 -0 lead.
The second half became a procession of scoring from the Halton team, starting with a great break from Andy Woodward
who race 50 yards before releasing a perfect pass to the supporting Danny Mellor who raced under the posts.
Ian Skinner and Andy Morrison with his second soon followed both benefiting from superb delayed passes from David Dourley, unfortunately for Oldham team the pressure continued from Halton great all round support play from (MoM)
Danny Mellor resulted in 2 more tries to bring Danny his hat trick.
Robbie Conroy was next on the score sheet following a great run from Ian Skinner and the final try went to Dourley as he dummied his way over. Dourley converted all seven second half tries for a personal haul of 20 points.

Halton Farnworth Hornets ARLFC Open Age travelled to Wigan to face Spring View ARLFC in their 3rd NWC Division game of 2012 only to return reflecting their first loss of the year to a strong Spring View team in swamp like conditions.
Halton started brightly and had the best of the opening 15 minutes but failed to convert the pressure into points, Spring View took the lead with a converted try on 20 minutes and stretched the lead to 10 points shortly after, with a second try. Hornets fought hard to reduce the arrears but disaster struck on the stroke of half time when a slip in defence allowed Spring View in
for their 3rd try, which was converted to give the Wigan team a 16 - 00 half time lead.
HFH set about recovering the deficit in great style. First a nice break by Craig Glover was well supported by Danny Mellor to cross for a try which David Dourley converted. Not long after Dourley turned provider to put Ryan Kershaw in at the corner to reduce the arrears to just 6 points. Spring View increased the lead with a drop goal before Robbie Conroy scored wide out to make it 17 - 14.
Sensing a comeback HFH threw everything at the Spring View defence but time was against them and they couldn’t find the winning score as the clock ran out, it was another tough decision for the MOM sponsors with Mike Riley, Gary Richardson and Ian Skinner all prominent in this match but this weeks MoM award went to Andy Woodward for his all action display.

The HFH O/A will be disappointed with their performance losing away 08 - 04 to Langworth Reds.
HFH O/A took an early lead through a Robbie Conroy try but far too many dropped balls and incomplete sets gave Langworthy too much possession, and they recovered to take the win away from HFH.
The HFH O/A will need to bounce back for next weeks final game of the Winter Season.
