The HFH U9's travelled to Leigh Sports Village to take on Leigh East, ending the first half 03 - 04 ahead in their clash from two tries a piece from Sam Craig and Reese Sumner.

Halton were denied an opportunity to close off the game when Adam Bamber's try was disallowed at the very end of the first half leaving this tense game wide open.

Credit to Leigh East, they settled themselves in the second half to take a 06 - 05 lead in spite of Sam Craig's second half hatrick try. A real end to end tussle ensued with both teams showing excellent strong running and try saving tacking. James Murray's quick thinking to dive over the try line following a quick play the ball, finally closed the gap for the Hornets ending the match at a 06 - 06 draw.

A fair result worthy of an excellent performance from both teams.

Mathew Doyle opened the scoring for the Hornets establishing a lead that the Wigan team could never quite catch. Daniel Kershaw led the attack putting in an excellent display scoring a hatrick.

Aditional scores came from Reece Sumner, Sam Craig and James Murray who scored the try of the game intercepting a Wigan pass to sprint two thirds of the pitch to score his second try of the match.

The HFH U9's winning ways continue this season with a 08 - 05 home victory over Wigan St Patricks.

The Wigan team tested the Hornets defensive line throughout the game with some inventive passing but Haltons strong tackling and a hatrick of tries from Adam Bamber, two from Daniel Kershaw and a single try a piece from Tom Bennett, Mathew Doyle & Sam Quinn proved too much for the visiting Wigan team.

HFH U9's face local rivals Moorfield away next in an eagerly anticipated game.

Local derby's rarely disappoint and the HFH U9's clash with Widnes Moorfield was no exception. With both teams evenly matched and on top form, they met at Moorfield Road in what was expected to be a tough game for both teams.

Hornets started best with their defensive line keeping Moorfield penned in their own end for the majority of the first half. Brutal tackling from Tom Bennett, James Murray, Sam Craig, Reece Sumner, Mathew Doyle, Daniel Kershaw & Jared Hodgkinson pushed Moorfield back and any attacks to the Hornets wings were quickly snuffed out by either Sam Quinn or Adam Bamber.

Hornets, controlling the territory, tested the Moorfields defence again and again until Adam Bamber dived over the white wash to give HFH U9's the lead. Adam Bamber was then unlucky not to put Halton 00 - 02 ahead before half time when, following a sprint down the right wing, he was tackled inches short of the try line.

Moorfield re-grouped in the second half to quickly even up the score. Chasing the win both teams showed real resolve battling through some bone crunching tackles and a passion that at times incurred wrath of the referee.

Hornets, with a squad of nine, were unable to rest players during the match as they started to fatigue in the closing part of the game. Moorfield capitalised taking a 02 - 01 lead that the Hornets in the end couldn't catch.

An excellent match played by two passionate Widnes teams.

Sunday 27th November 2011

11:00am kick-off.

HFH U9's faced a tough challenge in their final match of the interim season against an unbeaten Thatto Heath.

The St Helens team arrived at Wilmere Lane Sports Ground with a full squad and their star coach Warrington Wolves
half back Lee Briers. Slightly ore struck, the Hornets team showed too much respect to the visiting team, allowing them to dictate the pace and capitalise on an early scoring opportunity.

Trailing 00 - 01 the Hornets raised their game to bring the score even with a try from Adam Bamber.

HFH's tough tackling line kept Thatto at bay for a few sets but at times the Hornets failed to cover the ball on the tackle, allowing the St Helens team to off-load the ball resulting in another try against the Hornets. Adam Bamber again brought the game to even scores, out running the Thatto defence down the left wing,

Thatto took the lead again just before the end of the first half to bring the score to 02 - 03.

The second half was much tighter with the Hornets holding their defensive line better. Tom Bennett was unlucky not to score following an excellent twisting and turning run through the Thatto defence. A strong try scoring run from captain Reese Sumner brought the game to evens in the final part of the second half.

Thatto again off-loading from the tackle and spreading the play wide, took the spoils today with the final try of the game winning 03 - 04.

In spite of this loss, the Hornets U9's will look back at this interim season as a success with only two losses from closely fought matches against very big squads.

11:30am Kick Off.

HFH emulate Vikings with Wigan win.

HFH U9's continued their good form with a 06 - 02 win over the visiting Wigan St Patricks.

Halton dominated the first half with an excellent defensive display particularly from Tom Bennett, Reece Sumner, Sam Quinn and Jared Hodgkinson who showed some real purpose in his tackling.

Sam Craig was first to score for the HFH U9's, pushing through the Wigan line to bundle over the white wash. Sam quickly followed with his second. Adam Bamber then ran the length of the field to take his first try of the game showing good speed and strength to repel St Pats attempts to stop him.

Sam Craig scored again to secure an excellent hatrick and then once again Adam Bamber, breaking from the right, crossed the line to get his second score to end the first half 05 - 01 in favour of the Widnes team.

The second half was a much tighter affair with only a score a piece from each team. Wigan St Pats gathered themselves after the first half and presented a much stronger defensive line, only allowing the HFH U9's to breach them once through a strong run and try from Reece Sumner.

The Wigan team at times looked to be gathering momentum following their 2nd half try but the HFH U9's kept strong to the very end the game by staying 4 tries ahead.

For the third week in a row the HFH U9's took on a Wigan team, this time travelling to a rain soaked pitch to face Wigan St Cuthberts in what turned out to be their toughest challenge yet.

In an eventful but scoreless first half, both teams showed excellent discipline in defence.

The second half was more open with Cuthberts first to break the deadlock. Halton returned the score to evens from a Reese Sumner try but the Wigan team again took the lead.

Reese showed good strength duplicating his first try diving low through the Wigan defence to again touch down. The Hornets looked to have secured victory with a long try scoring run from Adam Bamber but Cuthberts showing great character ending the game 03 - 03 in what was a viewed as a fair result for both teams.

HFH U9's took a trip up the M6 to face Leyland. The gap in experience was evident with Halton peppering the opposition try line with scores from complex, and at times, ambitious passing that got every member of the Widnes team on the score sheet,

Credit to Leyland who showed some excellent rugby and a 'never give' up spirit throughout their squad in the face of a 03 - 14 loss. They will certainly be a team to watch out for as they develop in the future.

EASTER WEEKEND.

Sunday 15th April 2012

HFH U9's, debuting four new players in Dylan Bunting, Peter Donoghue, George Parle and Tyler Tandy secured a
07 - 06 win over the visiting Littleborough side.

Halton took an early lead from a Reece Sumner try (his first of 5) but made life very difficult for themselves handing
over play to the opposition countless times with some very uncharacteristic handling errors. Littleborough capitalized
on Haltons errors attacking the Halton line repeatedly and looked likely to secure the win after taking a 04 - 06 lead
half way through the second half.

Facing the possibility of their first loss of the season, Halton raised their game more. Reece Sumner added to his tally
and single tries a piece from Adam Bamber and Mathew Doyle helped the Hornets snatch victory from the the jaws of
defeat.

A special mention should go to Tom Bennett & Sam Craig who were able to put aside their loyalty to the team in order
to make up the numbers for the Littleborough squad.

HFH U9's travelled to a rain soaked pitch in Salford to face Langworthy Reds, in atrocious conditions that would have created lots of handling errors.

The Halton team's plan to keep passing to a minimum paid off with 10 tries to Langworthy's 2.

Adam Bamber opened the Hornets account with his first of two tries in the game. Tom Bennett was next to score, his first of an excellent hat-trick. Sam Craig crossed the line next, sprinting down the touch line to score his first of two tries.

George Parle, in only his second competitive game, scored his debut try for the Halton team showing some excellent speed breaking through the Salford teams line to cross the "wetwash". Sam Quinn added his name to the score sheet with a great single score as did James Murray, who showed outstanding footwork side stepping his way through the Reds defence to help seal a convincing victory for the Widnes team.

HFH U9’s took a long trip up the M62 to face Rochdale Cobras in a game that really should have been postponed due to weather conditions.

Ahead of kick off, both sets of players & spectators braved the rain, high winds & cold temperatures to observe a minutes silence in memory of Peter Quinn, father of HFH U9’s squad member Sam, who sadly passed away a week earlier.

At the whistle the Hornets started the game well and struck first through a Reece Sumner try. A lack of concentration from Halton allowed Rochdale to quickly equalize. From this point on, Halton dominated the game with Tom Bennett next to score, followed by Reece Sumner chalking up his second from a match hat trick.

Adam Bamber added his name to score sheet with his first of three scores. Mathew Doyle crashed over the line to get his try, and Sam Craig scored twice to seal a 03 - 10 win in match that will be remembered more for the weather conditions than the rugby.

Single tries from Jared Hodgkinson, Reece Sumner and Tom Bennett.

HFH U9’s still remain unbeaten this season following their trip to Chorley Panthers.

The Hornets struggled to contain the Panthers attack in the early stages of the match with Chorley’s big forwards proving to be a real handful. Halton, throwing more players into the tackle, were able to slowly build a defensive platform that enabled some excellent attacking rugby.

Halton’s big forwards Reece Sumner and Matthew Doyle were key, using their strength and size to push through to score a hat-trick each,

Sam Quinn scored two tries, his second an excellent display of running, fast footwork and determination to score from deep within the Hornets half,

Adam Bamber, Sam Craig and Tom Bennett added their names to this 05 - 11 away win with an excellent single try each.
